Ducks Unlimited
Butte County, California
Gray Lodge Wildlife Area Water Supply Project Phase 1
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Odin self-performed all portions of this project apart from the concrete work.
The project consists of the demolition and reconstruction of two drainage canals located in Butte County. Both locations consist of two drainage canals traveling in different directions where the water flows intersect. The water drainage is designed to bridge/tunnel around one another in order to maintain flow rates. Odin’s responsibility is to demolish the old concrete pipe and structures used for the intersection of the drainage water, re-grade the existing drainage canals, install new concrete culverts, concrete pipes, concrete headwalls, concrete flatwork, steel pipes, and mechanical gate structures. Once the new canal intersections are completed, Odin will install rip rap inlets and outlets as well as hydroseed all bare areas. The project is challenging because it must be constructed in the winter time when canal flows are at their lowest, however the water will never be completely shut off. Extensive dewatering and inflow water management is critical to the success of the project.
