Auburn, California – The 17th Annual ASCE Golf Tournament, hosted by Odin, was a resounding success, bringing together over 160 enthusiastic golfers and vendors at The Ridge Golf Course and Event Center on October 5th, 2023. This annual event was a day of friendly competition, camaraderie, and philanthropy, benefitting the Alfred R. Golze Scholarship Fund.
Attendees from the civil engineering and construction industry enjoyed a day of spirited competition, teeing off in the 18-hole tournament and showcasing their skills in the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests. The event not only provided an opportunity for industry peers to bond but also made a significant impact on the future of aspiring engineers.
The golfers were treated to an array of food and beverages, thanks to the generous support of vendors such as Bennett’s Kitchen Bar & Market, Chef Jill Zenti, and Dos Tacos Y Mas. Additionally, seven On-Course Refreshment sponsors, including Abatix, F3 & Associates, Siegfried Engineering, Maloney Construction, California Testing Services (CTS), Herc Rentals, and Keller, ensured that participants remained well-refreshed throughout the day.
StretchLabs was on-site, providing stretching and injury prevention services at registration, a service that was widely appreciated and utilized by many golfers, ensuring they were in top form for their rounds.
The highlight of the event was its charitable impact. The 2023 ASCE Golf Tournament raised over $125,000 for the Alfred R. Golze Scholarship Fund. This fund, managed by the ASCE Sacramento Section, provides financial support to civil engineering and construction management students in the greater Sacramento area. Since its inception, the scholarship fund has raised over $1,800,000 and benefited over 500 students at prestigious institutions like California State University Sacramento, California State University Chico, University of California Davis, and the University of the Pacific.
Financial support for civil engineering students is of paramount importance in the current educational landscape. With California State tuition reaching record highs and projected to increase by an additional 34% over the next five years, the financial burden on students has never been greater. Rising tuition costs, coupled with the increasing expenses of living and education, are creating formidable challenges for aspiring engineers. “Supporting engineering graduate students is not just an investment in their future, but in the future of our society as well,” said Louay Owaidat, President and CEO of Odin. The ASCE’s commitment to this cause for 17 years has been instrumental in alleviating the financial strain on these students and enabling them to pursue their dreams, ultimately ensuring a stronger, more innovative future for the field of civil engineering.
“We are incredibly proud of the success of the 17th Annual ASCE Golf Tournament,” said Megan Yaranon, Marketing Manager at Odin. “Not only did we have a fantastic day of golf and camaraderie, but we also made a significant contribution to the future of our industry by supporting the Alfred R. Golze Scholarship Fund. We are grateful to our sponsors, vendors, and all participants for their generous contributions.”
This event would not have been possible without the support of sponsors, participants, and volunteers who helped make the 17th Annual ASCE Golf Tournament a memorable occasion. It exemplifies the industry’s commitment to fostering the next generation of civil engineers.
